Explanation

Behavioural design is a sub-category of design, which is concerned with how design can shape, or be used to influence human behaviour. It draws on theories of behavioural change, including the division into personal, behavioural, and environmental characteristics as drivers for behaviour change.

Areas in which design for behaviour change has been most commonly applied include health and wellbeing, education, sustainability, environmental, social, as well as crime prevention. It is also be used to influence consumer behaviour.

ABOUT ME.

ABOUT ME

Growing up abroad I was lucky enough to experience new cultures and meet people from all walks of life. As such I have an unwavering belief that everyone deserves kindness, respect, equality and the fundamental right to the same opportunities.

As a behavioural designer, I incorporate behavioural psychology into my designs by applying a simplify, engage and motivate approach. Coupled with popular behavioural change marketing frameworks, I am able to create designs that engage people, challenge their current behaviour and motivate them to develop new sustainable, long term habits.

Taking into account personal, social and environmental factors, I begin by researching the target audience which allows me to identify potential barriers and determine the motivating factors that will result in the desired change in behaviour. It is important to remember that to see a lasting change in behaviour, people need to feel that the new behaviour, whether it be making healthier choices or choosing to try out a new brand, is enjoyable, worth the effort and is compatible with their values and 'sense of self'.

When designing for behaviour change, all designs should be simple, engaging and motivational.
